Insulate It Solutions – How Spray Foam Insulation Works

Spray foam insulation is a premium product that can be an excellent solution for homeowners who struggle with high energy bills. This is because it seals the building envelope so air doesn’t leak in or out, and therefore, heating and cooling costs are significantly lower. More info :https://insulateitfl.com/

The way it works is that two liquid chemicals (the A-side and the B-side) are heated to a precise temperature and pressurised, then sprayed onto surfaces. The chemicals then react to form plastic foam that expands and sticks to the surface it’s applied to. The reaction is exothermic so it creates heat, but once the process is complete, the liquid chemicals are replaced by the safe foam insulation.

However, it is important to note that the spray foam insulation contains blowing agents that are derived from hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which have a global warming potential of 3,400 times higher than carbon dioxide on a per kilo basis. In addition, HFCs have been linked to the decline of the ozone layer, which in turn has contributed to climate change.

Alternatives to Spray Foam Insulation

For these reasons, homeowners who have had spray foam installed may wish to consider replacing it with another product, such as fibreglass or cellulose. However, this does require careful research as some alternatives may not be suitable for a particular property.

As such, we recommend that anyone who has had spray foam insulation installed should also consider having an ERV or HRV installed in their home as this mitigates the poor airflow problems caused by the product and offers additional environmental benefits.
